by Dave Heeren & Pete Palmer
Two of the best-known statisticians in American sports combine their efforts to explain the most effective statistical methods for analyzing and rating players and teams in baseball, football, and basketball. They introduce in this book new theories and formulas to analyze American’s favorite sports at the basic level.
Each sport is covered in a full section and more than a hundred pages of databases along with statistical ratings for:
● Baseball’s greatest hitters and pitchers
● The best NFL players of all-time
● Every active and retired NBA and ABA basketball player
This book compiles all the basic statistical data that any sports fan will need and offers the tools to evaluate future players. It will serve as a year-round resource for the dedicated sports fan.
Dave Heeren invented the TENDEX System for rating basketball players in 1958. He has written books in five different genres, including the Basketball Abstract Series that popularized TENDEX and led to its use by 16 NBA teams. He is a longtime sports consultant and journalist.
Pete Palmer has received numerous awards (most recently the 2010 Ralph Hay Lifetime Achievement award from the Professional Football Research Association) in both baseball and football and he is the author, co-author, or editor of many books and articles. He served as a consultant to the Sports Information center, the official statisticians for the American League.
