20-Year Index to the National Button Society Bulletins
by Anne W. Flood
Anne W. Flood, a retired elementary school teacher, was a collector of buttons for over 50 years. She was a president of the New Jersey State Button Society and a member of several other state societies. She was also a long-time member of the National Button Society. From finding a single button in a friend’s button box to searching antique stores, flea markets, street markets, and button dealer tables, she enjoyed the pleasure that comes from the hunt—as well as the enjoyment that comes from sharing the find with friends. She has thoroughly enjoyed a hobby that can be shared with a child as well as a peer.
In her many years of collecting she often found the need to refer either for herself or for a friend to the National Button Society Bulletin. Her personal, handwritten Index to the Bulletin became known to her fellow button collectors who would often ask her for help in locating an elusive article or subject. That work became her superb index to the first 50 years of the Bulletin. But as she pointed out and as is so evident in the size of this additional 20 years of indexing, the Bulletin has greatly expanded with research, color pictures, and articles. Anne continued to Index and produced first a 10-year index and now this 20-year index which integrates the earlier 10 years of data into it.
