President of the World Hockey Association Hall of Fame, and
an acknowledged expert on the history of the WHA. He has written, produced
and directed numerous WHA video documentaries that are
available as the multi-disc WHA Hall of Fame DVD series.
His previous book on the WHA, “Red, White & Blues: a personal history of
Indianapolis Racers hockey 1974-1979” was published in 2007, with a revised
edition published by St. Johann Press as “Positive Waves: A History of
Indianapolis Racers Hockey 1974-1979.”
Gassen has worked professionally as a journalist and filmmaker since 1979. In 1995
he won an Arizona Press Club Award for his hockey coverage, and he’s served as a
college hockey radio play-by-play man and team media director. He has also been a
longtime columnist for InsideHockey Magazine. This is his fourth book.
